Remember four years ago, when Biden was first elected, cannabis stocks were unstoppable. The promise of marijuana decriminalization and swift passage of safe banking seemed inevitable. With all the signals pointing to green (no pun intended), cannabis stocks soared to new heights.
Four years later, it’s clear that the Biden presidency has yielded little to no progress. His promises were largely forgotten, and the stock prices of cannabis companies continued their downward spiral. We are now at an all-time low, with few cannabis investors remaining in the market.
2025: The Year of Rebirth for Cannabis stocks
Many people will be shocked by what’s in store for cannabis in 2025. Trump has already expressed support for federal marijuana rescheduling and measures to improve banking access for cannabis businesses. And when he speaks, he typically follows through. The catch, however, is that the stock market remains skeptical—leading cannabis stocks to stay at all-time lows.
This is precisely why the cannabis industry stands as a golden opportunity right now, with valuations so low it’s almost unbelievable. Companies with strong fundamentals, like Green Thumb (GTBIF) or High Tide ($HITI), are likely to be among the first to see significant rewards. Lesser-known stocks, such as Avant Brands ($AVTBF) or Decibel Cannabis Company (DB.V), which are currently trading with market caps under $50 million, could experience even greater upside in the future. Yes, I’ve included some Canadian cannabis companies in the mix because I believe the coming shift will impact Canada as well.
